New Season-New League
The Monroe Hornets enter the 2007 season with 8 returning players, and 5 returning starters. Several new faces add optimism for this very young team which will also compete in the Southwest Buckeye League for the very first time. Senior returnees include: Tyler Ott, Alex Keeton, Jared Mitchell, and Nick Davis. Senior Brandon Trimble joins the varsity squad for this his final year of high school competition. Junior returnee Taylor Simpson anchors the outfield while returning junior Kevin Enchelmeyer provides stability in the middle infield. Kevin will be joined by fellow juniors: Cory Morris, Jake Hofer, and Tyler House. Leading the sophomores will be returning starter JC Kellis. Sophomores Jason Osterman, Tyler Haskin and Christian McElroy join the varsity this year. Freshman Cody Ridinger will represent the freshman class on this years varsity team. Head Coach Bobby Hunt fortified his staff with the excellent addition of pitching Coach Rodney Hubbard, former Head Coach at Fairfield Coach Hubbard brings valuable baseball knowledge and experience to the program. Returning as an assistant coach is Gary Davis. Coach Davis will manage the outfielders. Last years JV coach, Tim Kellis, moves up to the varsity to handle stats and other duties. This team should put up big numbers offensively and if the pitching and defense can hold up, they should be in for an excellent season.
Rebuilding or Reloading
The secret that Monroe hopes to keep from the league and everybody else until game time is. They are not rebuiding but reloading. With the return of 8 varsity players from last year. A very good pitching staff of Tony Gibson, Josh Hendrixson and Chris Perdue. The hornets have a newcomer to Monroe Steve Cattani. Steve brings a tremendous arm and very good leadership qualities to our team,(saids coach Bob Hunt. Coach Hunt is beginning his 5th year as the hornets boss and has high hopes for his players. Also returning from last years team are 3rd baseman Matt Morrison who had a great season at the hot corner for Monroe last year.Cory Keith, Jason Hunt and Senoir Cody Thacker also return with a chance to help laed the hornets to a league title. Newcomers for the hornets are Sam Howard Jarod Soto and Mike Tannreuther. With this gruop of kids I have found hard working dedicated kids who want to do what it take to win titles. Joining the hornets this year is pitching coach David Barber who will replace long time assitant Rick Hunt. Barberwill be a great addition to our program with the quality pitching we have coming back he will be a tremendous plus for us. We have our goals set high we don't want to settle for secong best. We want to be the best.
