New

2008 Holiday Klassic Tournament

The Woodbridge Stikers West team finished the year with a strong showing by going 2-1 the round robin part of the tournament which left them tied for second with Newmarket (their only loss).

Woodbridge started strong by defeating Barrie 2-0 in a game that featured pin point passing, clever playmaking and lethal finishing.  The next game, versus Bolton, proved to be the best and in some opionion the most entertaining game of the whole tournament.  Woodbridge, anxious to make up for a loss during the summer to Bolton at a tournament in St. Catherines, came out strong and managed to catch Bolton flat footed and score first.  A great individual effort a few minutes later resulted in a tie game and the battle was on.  Unlike past games were Bolton dominated, they were surprised by a strong counter attack resulting in a corner kick that Woodridge was able to convert for the lead.  This led to a very intense 10 minute period where Bolton, urged on by their coach and parents tried to take the game to Woodbridge by becoming more physical.  To Bolton's surprise, Woodbridge not only did not back down but showed great character in matching Bolton blow for blow and holding them to harmless shots from long distance.

The final game against Newmarket proved to be a bit anti climactic as even though Woodbridge had the majority of possesion they were not able to convert.  A strong shot from just over the half way line caught the top corner and proved to be enough to beat Woodbridge and deny them a place in the final.
