UNIROYAL PARTNERS WITH THE LEAGUE!
Uniroyal

Hello to all our soccer families!

As was noted earlier in an article on this site, UNIROYAL TIRE has partnered with the Warren Youth Soccer League.  Beginning on August 18, 2008 at the Madison Heights Tire & Auto of Madison Heights and through the Uniroyal Soccer Program children of the League will receive a certificate good for a free soccer ball that can be redeemed at Madison Heights Tire & Auto!

Throughout its nine-year history, the Uniroyal Soccer Program has been partnering tire dealers with youth soccer leagues as an effort to strengthen communities.  The program and participating dealers have donated nearly $11 million in funds and equipment, including over 818,000 soccer balls, to youth sports programming across the country!

To learn more about the Uniroyal Soccer Program, visit the brand's web site at www.uniroyal.com.  Coaches of the Warren Youth Soccer League will also have information regarding the program as it pertains to our League.

On behalf of all our members, may we take this opporltunity to thank UNIROYAL for allowing our League to participate in their Soccer Program this year.  We would also like to thank Madison Heights Tire & Auto for their participation.

A SOCCER YEAR IN REFLECTION

Hello to all our soccer friends and families!

Yes, another soccer year has come and gone!  With the closing of Wednesday's banquet night, the League closed out it's 2007/2008 soccer year.  Many events took place - the summer soccer camp, and the annual summer soccer banquet, to name a few.  It was a great year once again.  Though we will shortly begin the new 2008/2009 year we need to pause a minute and reflect on the past year.

Please take a moment and review the articles below that cover the summer soccer camp and the soccer banquet.  Each has pictures of the event showing the fun our soccer families have had this past year at just two of the events!

We also would like to thank all those that helped with our teams and all the behind the scene things that make our League such a success.  In addition we would like to say hello to UNIROYAL.  They are sponsering a program this year to provide a soccer ball to each of our players this fall.  In addition UNIROYAL will donate $2.00 to the League for each tire sold at the UNIROYAL store in Madison Heights over a specific time period.  Ask your coach about this great program.  They will be receiving more information with their coaches packets that they will pick up on Satureday July 26th!  - THANK YOU UNIROYAL

Again - we had a great year - thank you all.

CHALLENGER SPORTS/BRITISH SOCCER SUMMER CAMP RECAP

Coaches Andy (L) Geraint (R)
Hello to all our soccer friends!
It's July already!!  Where has the time gone?  Just four short weeks ago Challenger Sports/British Soccer and the League held another soccer camp.  The camp was coached by two young men from Europe who worked with the campers all week.  They taught new skills, helped improve on ones already used and gave the young campers a true understanding of the game from a European point of view.
Andy Brookfield - from England - returned this year to head the camp and was joined by Geraint Cooper - from Wales.  As in the past, the campers and coaches fast became friends, and each day got down to working on the skills needed to play the game - yet have lots of fun doing it!
Each day the campers were sent home with "homework".  Either they had to find some important facts of the game and have the answer the next morning or they had to come to camp wearing the "colors" of the country they were "representing" that week.  Each team would get points for what they learned or did and these points added up for the "World Cup" final on Friday.
The coaches, though, did not get away without some participation.  Thursday was dress the coach day!  Both Andy and Coop had to wear whatever their campers brought.  What a sight that was!! Check out the pictures of the camp for Andy and Coops' dress!!!!!
It was a great week with lots of fun, but also lots of hard work as the campers learned skills to improve their game.  The League wishes to take this opportunity to thank both Andy and Geraint (Coop) for the great job they did!  We are sure that the campers will always remember the great time they had at this years soccer camp!  Great job Lads!!!!  Also thank you to Jim Conner - from Challenger Sports - who each year has worked with the League in presenting the camp.
I would like to take a moment to also thank John Messing - the Leagues Vice President - who helped me throughout the week to ensure that campers received their shirts and balls and made sure that there was always someone from the League at the camp to help out if needed.  Thank-you John.
Please follow the picture link for photos of this years camp.
Again - thank you to both Andy and Geraint for a job well done!

DECEMBER SOCCER CAMP

Are you looking to elevate your soccer game to the next level?  Do you want quality training during the winter?  Brian Maisonneuve - retired MLS player, World Cup veteran, former Youth National Team Coach, current Assistant Coach at the University of Louisville, along with Coach Terry Mukhtar - Head Coach of the five-time De La Salle High School men's soccer State Championship teams, will be hosting a camp in December 2008.

The soccer clinics are designed to teach athletes how to improve on their individual soccer skills and how to master the fundamentals at every level.  The drills and exercises taught at the camp are those Brian Maisonneuve did as a youth and those he and Coach Mukhtar teach at the High School, College, and National levels.  This is a unique opportunity for the players wanting to learn what it takes to play soccer in college and beyond.

Details of the camp will be coming soon and will be available on their web site at www.practicewithaprofessional.com   Don't miss this great opportunity!

SUMMER BANQUET CLOSES OUT SOCCER YEAR
Banq706
The Trophy Table

On July 14, 15, and 16 the Warren Youth Soccer League again held their annual Summer Soccer Banquet.  Each evening teams along with parents and friends, came to DeCarlo's in Warren, to have dinner and particiapate in the trophy presentations.  In addition each evening a door raffle and a 50/50 drawing were held.

League President Chris McEachern opened each evening with a few words to the audience, especially thanking the coaches and assistant coaches for what they did the past year.  Chris also introduced the League's Board to the group and gave a special thank-you to Keith Messing and his Banquet Commity for their work in setting up this years' Banquet.

As always the main event - trophy presentation - was well received by both the players and the parents.  Each year each and every player receives a trophy for their accomplishments on the field, their team work, and their dedication to the sport.  This is what the League is all about - the youth that play - or as our motto reads "Where Youth Comes First"

On hand this year - Monday evening - was Rebecca Renee Dewar the 2008 National Supreme Cover Model.  Rebecca drew the first winning ticket for the door prizes and added a bit of glamour to the evenings proceedings.  You can see pictures of Rebecca through our Picture path and the 2008 Banquet.

The League's Board wishes to take this opportunity to congratulate all the players and teams for their accomplishments the past soccer year.  It also wishes to extend to all to have a great but safe summer and looks forward to seeing everyone back on the pitch this fall.

Please take a moment to view pictures in our Picture path of this years Banquet.
